For our history moodboard, we have been inspired by different types of art, architecture and fashion, which made this moodboard very special on it own way.
We found an inspiration from „The Romance of Botany“ by Gucci, which is referring to our trend story – romance. We were also inspired by the Messy Nessy Chic`s blog in which Gucci stated that Romance and Botany were „ two words rarely found in the same sentence, but there was time when the science of botany was so risque that it was censored for women.“ In the Enlightenment Era, botany was the most provocative virtuosity and Gucci said that „ Gardens and greenhouses became the enlightened woman`s secret haven of discovery and temptation.“ It was interesting to us, how botany was once upon a time so provocative for women, but today gardens and flowers are something that we consider pure, delicate and feminine.

In the exactly 18th century, women`s clothing dominated the floral design „Queens and princesses were instructed in botanical illustration and plant collecting became a highly desirable pastime, encouraged by fashionable ladies magazines and periodicals ; women`s clothing began reflecting the romantic science and floral designs dominated fabrics and silks.“

I also have to mention the famous painter, Cloude Monet, which paintings we associated with „The Romance of Botany“ and H&M x Erdem collection. Cloude Monet was the founder of impressionism, in the era of innovation and inspiration. In his paintings he wanted to capture light and natural forms.

Sunrise, 1874.

Bridge over a pond of water, 1899.
Something that people connect to romance and love for many years now, and that is The Eiffel tower. Of course we decided to incorporate it in our history moodborad, because it was built in Enlightenment Era. In that time, residents of Paris were looking at it as a „Parisian lady“ and as a symbol of renewal after the war.

Even though women in the 18th century were influenced by the plants and floral designs on their clothing, nowadays everyone has at least one piece like that in their closet. Whether it is the big designers like Gucci or small shops like H&M, Top Shop, Zara and many more, have at least several items of floral design and embroidery. In my last blog post l was writing about street photography, and how some people love floral pieces on their jackets, shoes, purses or shirts. But for some people that is just some clothing item which they just grabbed by leaving the house in a hurry.
After finishing this assignment, I realized that in our minds the perspective of romance, which we had starting this task, has completely changed. I was writing in my last post how we had this stereotypical view on romance. Now, as we learned more about different aspects of it l came to conclusion that it is a big part of history of mankind and production of many things that are timeless.
