( This one is my favorite )
In today's world, there is a very small amount of fashion photographers. But back in 1943, there was only one, Frances McLaughlin – Gill was the first fashion photographer which sign the contract with the ever famous, Vogue. Before she did that, Frances and her twin sister Kathryn were competing together in photography competition, called Vogue’s Prix de Paris for Vogue, in 1941. Toni Frissel, who was Frances`s mentor, introduced her to Vogue`s director, Alexander Liberman, who was instantly seized with Frances`s honesty, free – spirit and impulse.

Frances McLaughlin – Gill did not only represent the women to which Vogue was more and more approaching to, but her work was like no other. She was direct and spontaneous, and her photographs broke that formal ritual of photography which was a standard at that time. In 1996, Frances told in an interview how . “Everyone was wearing beautiful clothes, sitting in an elegant chair, or leaning against a pillar, looking into the camera”. But in fact her style of work was completely different, casual, unplanned and natural.
After spending 20 years in fashion industry, she began to work as a film producer. She even won a Gold Medal for one of her films at the 1969 Films and TV Festival. After that, she collaborate with her sister, where they released a few collections in association with more authors.
Let`s see a small gallery of her amazing work.
